How we met

April 20, 2015 ... Persistence pays off

Stacey and I met on the J-date online dating website. Stacey reached out to me first in 2013, but I foolishly never responded because I was already dating someone else and was taking down my profile. A few months after that earlier relationship ended, Stacey reached out to me again, and I was wowed. The first time we spoke on the phone, I was sitting outside and a bird pooped on me when Stacey was telling me about her parrots. They say that's good luck but don't know who the "they" are. Our first date was for drinks and apps at Vino Volo in Bethesda. In what in retrospect must have been a good sign, I stopped for a drink at a nearby restaurant before meeting Stacey and bumped into my ex-wife and her husband and had a drink with them. They wished me luck for my date. I then saw Stacey for the first time and we talked and talked ... the evening went by in a blur. Before the date was over I asked Stacey out again for another date. And here we are 7 years later.

The Proposal

March 12, 2021

Stacey and I went down to Williamsburg, Virginia (one of our favorite places) to celebrate Stacey's 50th birthday. Since the pandemic was still in full swing, we couldn't have a party so I asked Stacey's friends and family to make videos wishing her a happy birthday. I made one too and decided it was the perfect way to propose. We went to lunch at Le Yaca for brunch, and after dessert, I played my video and proposed live at the same moment I proposed on the video. She said "yes"!
