FAQs

Question

What areas would you recommend staying in?

Answer

We would would highly recommend staying near a Metro station. Specifically around the reception location (Tysons, Vienna, Falls Church) , or Arlington. Being near a Metro station will allow easy access to tourist attractions in DC and both airports (DCA and IAD). We recommend staying in DC only if you are planning on heavily exploring the city, otherwise taking a train from any of the areas mentioned above is an easy 20min commute.

Question

How do I use the Metro?

Answer

The train system is very easy to use. You can buy a physical card or virtual card can be purchased through you wallet for access. CityMapper and Google Maps can help navigate and let you know when trains will be arriving. Most DC attractions are located on the Orange, Blue, and Silver lines right as you cross into DC from Virginia.

Question

Where can I find Indian attire if I was planning to wear one?

Answer

Check out these websites - https://www.houseofindya.com/ https://www.cbazaar.com/ https://www.hatkay.com/ For DMV area - Mohar Indian Clothing Boutique located in Herndon, VA

Question

What to expect at the temple?

Answer

Expect to take your footwear off when you go to the main floor. The wedding auditorium space is at the bottom floor and footwear is okay on this floor. Please do not bring outside food into the temple. There is plenty of parking available.

Question

What can I wear to the temple ceremony?

Answer

Dress modestly and respectfully. Traditional Indian attire is encouraged (sarees, lehengas, kurta-pajamas). If wearing Western clothes, choose formal, conservative outfits. Shoulders and knees should be covered. (We don't mind what you choose to wear as long as it's modest!)

Question

What are the best transportation options for tourists in Washington, DC?

Answer

Metrorail (Metro) – The fastest way to travel around DC and nearby areas. It's color-coded and connects major attractions. Purchase a SmarTrip card for easy access. Metrobus – Affordable and reaches more places than the Metro. Great for routes not covered by trains. Walking – DC is walkable, especially around the National Mall and downtown area. Biking/Scooters – Capital Bikeshare and scooter rentals (e.g., Lime, Bird) are widely available and a fun way to explore the city. Rideshare/Taxi – Uber and Lyft are readily available and often used for convenience, especially at night or when transit is less frequent.

Question

What transportation options are available for tourists traveling outside of the DC Metro area?

Answer

Ubers/Lyfts can connect you to the suburbs. You would probably need a rental car if you plan to travel outside of the metro area. (ex. Hiking in Shenandoah) Airport Transit: Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Reagan National Airport (DCA) are accessible via Metro or shuttle services. Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) is accessible via MARC Train or bus from Union Station.
