Not just the home of Appalachian State University, Boone is a unique mountain town worth a detour if you have the time. Explore King Street shopping and dining, a great area to find lunch before checking out Price Lake, Linn Cove Viaduct, or Grandfather Mountain.

Grandfather Mountain

One of the biggest attractions in the area. Spring 2026 Hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Last entry at 4:30 p.m., trails close at 5 p.m.)

Price Lake

One of our favorite places. A serene lake surrounded by mountain peaks. Easy to enjoy a quick pull off on your way to Linn Cove Viaduct. For those looking for more with a hike, check out the loop trail around the lake.
