Nathan and I first crossed paths at Spring Arbor University, where we were both student-athletes. Though we knew of each other (hence going to a very small college where everyone knows of everyone haha) our story truly began during our junior year. One day, Nathan noticed me in our school’s cafeteria chatting with a dining commons worker, sparking up a kind and thoughtful conversation…when most people, in his opinion, would simply just walk by. That small moment left an impression on him, that left him wanting to get to know me. He told me later on down the road that “He didn’t think my heart could match my external beauty.” Essentially Nathan thought I was too pretty and he didn’t think my heart would be just as attractive hahaha. I guess I proved him wrong 😉 Nathan shortly reached out to me later asking if could get lunch together. I was so excited and shocked—“Nathan, that Dominican soccer boy, that is super cute….asked ME on a date?!” Nathan wasn’t like anyone I’d ever met—he was everything I had hoped and prayed for. From the start, he pursued me with such intention and clarity…no confusion whatsoever. Within the first two weeks of getting to know each other, he asked that both of us would individually take some time, write out our own values and non-negotiables for our relationship, and reconvene to talk about them hahah. I thought he was crazy. It was only two weeks in! Why are we doing this?!? It was bold, maybe even a little scary, but it showed me the kind of man he is—one who is confident, thoughtful, and serious about not wasting my time or his. Turns out we both desired similar things for our future that seemed to beautifully align with one anothers…an Ephesians 5 type of thing ;) His pursuit was unlike anything I had personally experienced. I found myself settling in life for the bare minimum until Nathan came around and showed me what it looked liked to actually be cherished like a daughter of Christ. He is one of the most intentional people I have ever met. He would leave me sweet and encouraging notes everywhere I went, surprise me with coffee during a long study sessions, bring his guitar and sing worship with me (if you don’t know Nathan, he is an incredible singer which was another thing that I fell in love with) or simply making time to check in throughout the day, Nathan had a way of making me feel cherished in the smallest and most mundane ways. It wasn’t fancy and it didn’t come with large price tags, but it made my heart the fullest. Over time, we became not just boyfriend and girlfriend, but truly best friends. We laugh constantly together and often find ourselves saying, “Did you ever think we’d be this weird and comfortable with each other?” Now, we can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of our favorite people. This day isn’t just about us—it’s about honoring the Lord and His faithfulness in our lives. Each of you has been such a special part of our journey, and we’re so excited to celebrate with you!
