From Nathan's Eyes Munah and I met online, the one way I was trying my best to avoid. One day I saw a message from a beautiful bowl of Cassava Leaves called Munah. My first thought after looking at the pictures and finding out she was Liberian was to ask one of my best friends, Savior, if there is any poison in this bowl? Savior gave me the thumbs up. It started with me spending two weeks trying to convince Munah to give me her number. Who would have thought to get a number was like pulling teeth. We finally had a chance to meet and I was impressed. Not only visually (Catfishing is real) but mentally. With age comes maturity so I was focused on finding a wife. Plus, I was getting older and was tired of hearing my Mom ask about grandchildren. I said to myself, I would no longer make someone my girlfriend unless I saw that person as a potential wife. Munah is kind, compassionate, thoughtful, God dedicated and very close with her family; everything I would want in someone who I plan to give my last name but as an African man I had to know if she could cook. Due to COVID we didn’t see each other for several weeks. One Saturday morning, I spoke with Munah and she told me she was cooking for her family (eye brows raise) and she would be busy for a few hours. Later that day, I got a call from her while I was at home and she told me to come outside. She had driven to my place just to drop off food. You know what they say, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Munah took that literally, and that food she made was so spicy, I got a heartburn; but that burning in my heart was Love. The gesture of the act only matched the deliciousness of the food. Everyday, from the time I asked her to be my girlfriend to the day I asked if she would marry me she has put a smile on my face. Your parents pray that you will find a good suitable partner in life that will take care of you the way they have. Well, God has answered that prayer. From Munah's Eyes Nate and I met the “modern way”, online dating, a dating app call Hinge. Fall of 2019, I quickly came across this handsome man's page and liked his picture. I sent him a message which said, “you should smile more”. I am not exaggerating, he wasn’t smiling in any of his pictures. Within a day, he replied, “hey gorgeous”. We started to chat quite often on the app. On our first meet up, we spoke more about family, spirituality, therapy, our upbringing, and future plans. He expressed interest in a second date (who wouldn’t?). Nate made mentioned about his only Liberian Friend who is Savior. I quickly reached out to Savior, who is a friend of mine as well to get some information about Nate. She said, "Munah, you are in good hands." Few months later, he introduced me to his family. As a firm believer in Christ, I took Nate into my prayers, asking God for directions. Due to COVID, we met quite often at the park as restaurants options were limited. Nate always expressed his intentions for me with such excellence and confidence. While dating Nate, I observed he is so committed to his family, friends and loved ones. Nate is smart, ambitious, handsome, intelligent, with a gentle soul and most importantly his spirituality in God. God definitely listens to our prayers, blessing me with such an amazing cook, who has the best sense of humor, reminds me of God's faithfulness. I am so glad to call him mine.
