Nathan and Katie met at Camp Gray the summer of 2015, when Katie worked as a counselor and Nathan as property manager. They didn't know each other well until Katie joined the Servant Leadership Team in 2016. They quickly found common interest in Miller Lite and Last Man Standing. They made it through all 6 seasons together before they decided to give the dating thing a try. After a year of Louder with Crowder, corn dog and tater tot dates, brewery tours, and traveling to visit loved ones they fell in love.
Katie and Nathan were on their way to Katie's parents house to celebrate her birthday with family in her hometown of Stoughton. Nathan had been planting the seed for a few months that they should stop by the new Veteran's Memorial Park there. Being a veteran himself and Katie's interest in all things American made their stop there on a mild December day seem completely ordinary. Right before arriving, Nathan tricked Katie into thinking the proposal would happen at Christmas, throwing her completely off for what was about to happen. After walking around the park for about a half hour it was time to meet her family for lunch. As they were leaving, Nathan told Katie he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and got down on one knee. Katie was so surprised and excited she didn't even look at the ring and later had to ask for it, to which Nathan joked that he hadn't asked for Katie's dads blessing and we would need to put it away until later. Luckily he was kidding, and they got to tell Katie's family about the engagement in person.
