For guests wishing to explore Colombia before or after the celebration, domestic travel is simple and efficient. Avianca and LATAM operate frequent flights connecting major cities, with most routes lasting 45 to 90 minutes. From Medellín, popular destinations include: Bogotá (45 min) – the country’s main hub. Cartagena (1 hr) – perfect for Caribbean beaches and historic charm. Santa Marta (1 hr) – gateway to Tayrona National Park. San Andrés (1 hr 45 min) – known for its turquoise waters and island atmosphere. Bogotá also offers extensive connections to Cartagena, Santa Marta, Cali, and Medellín, generally between 45 and 90 minutes. We recommend booking early, especially for weekends or holidays. Domestic airports are easy to navigate, though weather may occasionally cause delays—so allow extra time if connecting to an international flight. Luggage policies vary by airline. Colombia’s beaches, mountains, and vibrant cities are just a short flight away—an easy way to enrich your trip while celebrating with us.

After flying between the U.S. and Colombia several times this year, I’ve learned a few tricks to make the trip easier and less stressful. Best Airports for Direct Flights Not many U.S. airports offer direct routes to Colombia, so choosing the right one matters. The airports that have worked best for me are: Miami (MIA), Fort Lauderdale (FLL). Both have reliable direct flights to Medellín, Bogotá, and Cartagena. 🔁 How I Organize My Route I usually book a domestic flight from Milwaukee to whichever airport (MIA or FLL) has the direct flight I want. I try to avoid international layovers (like connecting in Panama). Flying domestic within the U.S. first, then directly abroad, is much simpler. Important: Make sure both flights depart from the same airport—you don’t want to land at MIA and discover your next flight leaves from FLL. Leave Extra Time Give yourself more time between flights. International terminals often require going back through security, and since separate tickets aren’t coordinated, the second airline won’t rebook you for free if you miss the connection. It’s still often worth it for the flexibility and savings. Prefer Everything on One Ticket? You can also book the whole trip on a single itinerary from your home city to Medellín (MDE). One airline handles all the connections automatically. 🏠 For the Return I use the same strategy: fly directly into MIA or FLL, clear customs, then take an easy domestic flight home with a comfortable layover. Once You’re in Colombia… Expect beautiful views, warm people, and a slower, more peaceful rhythm that makes the journey completely worth it 🇨🇴✨.
