Adam moved to New York after 7 years in Chicago in April of 2011. About a month later, Nathan's brother, Newt, was visiting NYC from Chicago. Adam and Newt had been friends for a few years and Newt invited Adam to meet him, Nathan, and a few other friends out at a bar. Adam was looking forward to making some new friends local to NYC. Unbeknownst to Adam, Newt had invited him out as a potential set-up with Nathan. By the end of the night Nathan was definitely interested. Adam, however, was still clueless.
After seeing each other a couple times as friends, Nathan was ready to move things to the next level and ask Adam out on an official first date. He reached out and asked Adam out to dinner on a Friday night after work. Adam, still new to the city and eager to build up his NYC friend group, accepted and asked if it would be ok to invite his roommate and another friend along. He had no idea it was supposed to be a date. Nathan politely obliged but it was quickly apparent once at the restaurant that it was intended to be a date. Shortly after dinner, while Adam was away from the table, Nathan confirmed to the two friends that the night was supposed to be a date and they found a way to subtlety leave. Finally, Adam realized what was going on and the two of them continued their date and have been together ever since.
Nathan was ready to propose but was waiting for the right opportunity last fall. We planned a trip to San Francisco last December. Adam had never been to San Francisco so Nathan thought this would be a perfect opportunity for a long weekend on the West Coast and had a secret plan for while they were there. On their first full day, they set out to explore the city. Nathan took Adam to some of his favorite spots as they made their way along the waterfront towards the Golden Gate Bridge. They came to a beach front area with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background and Nathan grabbed both of Adam's hands and proposed. They spent the rest of the weekend enjoying the city and sharing the news with those closest to them before sharing with the rest of their friends and family over the holidays.
