How we Met - Como Nos Conhecemos

Love on 5th Ave - Amor na 5ª Avenida

It was a new beginning for Nathalie. She had just moved to NYC in the fall of 2019 to pursue her love for photography. Little did she know, she would discover an entire new love. Maikon had been living in NYC for several years as a student learning English, unaware of what the city still had in store for him. In late September, their paths crossed while working at a store on 5th Avenue. What started as a friendship, blossomed into a connection that surpassed what either of them could have ever imagined.

FAQs

Question

Do U.S citizens need a VISA to travel to Brazil?

Answer

U.S. citizens will need a visa to travel to Brazil starting April 10, 2025. Qualified applicants will be able to apply for an e-visa, which allows multiple entries and is valid for 90 days per visit and 10 years in total. You can learn more about the e-visa and application process on the Brazilian government's website, brazil.vfsevisa.com. The average processing time for an e-visa is 1–2 weeks, but that may vary. Please give yourself enough time, we recommend starting your application early Please visit https://brazil.vfsevisa.com for more information and to apply for your visa. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Question

How safe is Rio de Janeiro? Quão seguro é o Rio de Janeiro?

Answer

Always be aware of you surroundings, and do not leave items unattended. While traveling to any unfamiliar city, you should always use precaution. For the best advice, visit Travel.State.Gov for up to date information regarding safety while traveling. Esteja sempre atento ao seu entorno e não deixe objetos sem supervisão. Ao viajar para uma cidade desconhecida, tome sempre precauções.

Question

Where should I stay in Rio de Janeiro?

Answer

We are so excited to celebrate with you in beautiful Rio de Janeiro! For your stay, we recommend booking accommodations in the South Zone neighborhoods, which include Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon. These areas offer beautiful beaches, great restaurants, and easy access to many local attractions. For your safety and comfort, we recommend avoiding accommodations in the North Zone or in favela communities. If you have any questions about where to stay or need suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Question

What will the weather like in Rio de Janeiro?

Answer

Expect a high of 81°F and a low of 68°F. October - November (Brazil's spring) is an ideal time for visitors seeking sun and adventure. Mild and relatively dry weather (more rain than in the winter but less than the summer), fewer crowds and more room to sprawl out on the beaches are all part of the allure. If you don't mind missing the festival hoopla, you'll save money by booking a hotel at this time of year.

Question

Is card or cash best to use?

Answer

Unlike some other South American countries US dollars are rarely accepted in Brazil. Therefore we recommend you have some reais in cash. However, you are unlikely to be able to get Brazilian reais in your home country and if you can you are not likely to get a good exchange rate. Therefore we recommend withdrawing some reais from an ATM on arrival or taking a small amount of US dollars with you that can be more easily exchanged for local currency. All major credit and debit cards are accepted in Brazil. Smaller shops, kiosks, markets and more informal restaurants in remote areas may only accept cash, so make sure you have some with you as a back up.

Question

When should I book my flight and hotel?

Answer

We recommend booking flights and accommodations as early as possible, ideally 3–6 months in advance, especially since Rio is a popular destination.

Question

What’s the best way to get around Rio?

Answer

Uber is the easiest and most cost efficient way to get around in Rio. We’ll share more transportation tips closer to the date!
