We can't wait for our friends and family to experience San Miguel de Allende, the people, the food, and the culture! SMA is such a special place to us. The city boasts beautiful colorful buildings, cobblestone streets, impressive rooftops, unforgettable food, art galleries, boutique shops and lots of tequila & mezcal. We encourage a Thursday - Sunday long weekend (14th -17th). This allows for an evening free of pre-planned wedding activities to explore the town & enjoy a night out at one of the many amazing restaurants. See the "Things to do" tab for bar & restaurant recommendations.
San Miguel De Allende is a romantic colonial town located in "el corazon," or "the heart," of Mexico. Founded in the 1500's, this colorful city is a time capsule with cobblestone streets and colonial architecture. Considered one of the safest, most charming towns in Mexico, it's also a "hub" for expats and artists with endless galleries, high end shopping, and amazing rooftop bars and restaurants. This charming city is also a UNESCO Heritage Site and was named "Best Small City" in the world by both Travel & Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler and No. 1 City in the World in 2024! The whole city itself is walkable and you don’t need a car to explore. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other. At any point, you can orient yourself to the central square by looking for the tall Cathedral or "Parroquia". Be sure to bring some comfortable shoes as the city is paved with cobblestones and has a lot of hills and uneven surfaces. That being said, Uber or Taxis are readily available to get you around the city if in a hurry. You can go anywhere around the city center for around $5 USD. If you use a taxi, negotiate the price upfront.
