Question

What is the weather like in Estes Park in July?

Answer

One word = Beautiful! July in Estes Park is considered one of the beautiful times of year. The mornings & evenings bring crisp mountain air. The afternoons are full of clear skies and Colorado sunshine. Be on the lookout for that bright, beautiful Colorado sky! Daily high temperatures are around 76°F, rarely falling below 67°F or exceeding 85°F. Reminder: You are at 8,296 feet above sea level, therefore you are that much closer to the sun! Pack sunscreen, sunglasses and hats!

Question

What are high altitude tips & tricks?

Answer

Start taking a baby aspirin a few days prior to your arrival. You are 8,296 feet above sea level & that much closer to the sun! Always carry a water bottle. Alcohol is best avoided (except for when celebrating!) To avoid dehydration, drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day. Hydration is the key at high altitudes & dry climates especially if you are participating in physical activities. The dry mountain air increases your respiratory rate due to the lower oxygen content, which can be made greater with alcohol consumption. Alcohol & caffeine intake should be used with caution. Be sure not to underestimate the sun at a higher elevation. Sunburns occur much faster at higher altitudes. Protect yourself by wearing hats, sunglasses, & sunscreen. Symptoms of altitude sickness may include fatigue, decreased appetite, shortness of breath, nausea, headache, & sleep disturbances. If high altitude symptoms or any other medical issues are of concern, please contact a doctor.
