After Alexis was hired at the Wells House as an addictions counselor, a mutual friend invited her to a cookout to meet some of her new co-workers. Nate was there, as he had already been working for Wells House for some time as the IT Director. The two became friends while working together, and later went on their first date in May 2016.
Nate planned a wonderful Valentine's Day celebration which included an in-home couples massage at their home in Hagerstown, as well as dinner at one of their favorite restaurants, Isabellas, in Frederick, MD. When they arrived to the restaurant, the hostess was overheard telling the couple in front of them that they could not have the table in front of the window, because it was reserved for someone who was proposing! Because he thought the surprise had been ruined, Nate did not propose at the restaurant. While walking around downtown after dinner, Alexis wanted to have her palm read by a local fortune teller. The fortune teller said that there was something that she had been waiting on, but it was not going to happen for her right now! Afterwards, while walking down by the water at Carroll Creek, Nate got down on one knee and popped the question!
