Travel Note
The Rosario Islands (Islas del Rosario), are part of the Corales del Rosario National Park, approximately 62 miles from Cartagena (60-90 minute boat ride). The national park was founded to protect one of the most important coral reefs of the Colombian Caribbean coast. Playa Blanca and Barú are considered part of the Corales del Rosario National Park, although technically they are not part of the Rosario Island chain. Private boat tours, group boat tours, day trips, and overnight stays are all affordable and great options if you are looking to enjoy Cartagena's crystal blue waters and coral reefs. We personally had an excellent experience at Hotel Isala del Encanto, but below we have linked other great hotel options.
Travel Note
The closest island to Cartagena, Tierra Bomba is a quick 5-7 minute speed boat ride from Cartagena, making it a great day trip option. Although the water is not as clear as the further out Caribbean islands of Isla de Rosario, the beach and water are still very beautiful. We personally have stayed at Eteka Beach where the food was excellent and the view of the city from the beach were extraordinary.
