The last first date. We met online, and after weeks of talking we decided to meet face to face. Those weeks before we met were filled with lots of laughs, competitive banter (mostly about football) and excitement. Naturally, we decided to meet up on Football Sunday for brunch to watch the first game of the day and also set up a pick'em match that weekend against each other. Angel lived in Long Beach, CA and Natalie was in San Diego, CA. That Sunday, he drove down to North Park and we had brunch at West Coast Tavern. First dates can be nerve-racking, especially when it's the first time you are meeting someone. However, our first date felt so natural and right. Halfway through the first game, we had our first kiss. After that point, we knew that was going to be the start of something special. We were having such a great time that we decided to extend our plans and bar hop, watch all of the football games that day and also watch the Dodgers beat the Cubs in the playoffs. Making this a first date that we didn't want to end and a memory we will remember forever. For the record, it was a close match but Natalie won pick'em that weekend and the rest was history!
We had been together a little over 2 years at this point. We both knew that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, but the big question was "When?". Friday, November 8th seemed like any other day. Angel was driving down to spend the weekend in San Diego and we decided to have a date night at C-Level after work. We didn't really have a plan, but decided to take our chances and wait for a table. When Natalie arrived, Angel was sitting at a table by the water. This wasn't the first time that Angel worked his magic to make the impossible happen, so it didn't seem out of the ordinary. Natalie sat down relieved that we could start our date and was excited to see Angel. We enjoyed a great meal, drinks and even better conversation. It was one of those date nights where you just are so happy to be with your person and loving every minute of it. Our plates were cleared from the table and we were enjoying the view, then Natalie looks to her left and sees Angel on one knee with a ring. It was shocking and caught her off guard, but the best feeling in the world. In complete shock, Natalie stared at Angel for a few minutes processing what was happening and spoke a few choice words, until Angel said "Is that a yes?". Natalie had to excuse her French, and screamed yes! It was the best decision she ever made.
