Distance to Killarney: Approx. 3.5 to 4 hours drive (300 km / 186 miles). DUB is a major hub and is most likely to have direct, affordable flights from Philadelphia (PHL). It also offers the best public transportation options to Killarney.

Distance to Killarney: Approx. 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours drive (130 km / 80 miles). This is the most stress-free option for travelers planning to drive. Public transport is not as direct, best if you will be renting a car.

Important Info for Car Rentals
If you plan on touring the Ring of Kerry or other scenic areas, a car rental is recommended. Please note the following crucial differences when renting in Ireland: 1. Drive on the Left! Traffic drives on the left side of the road, and the steering wheel will be on the right. If you are uncomfortable with manual (stick-shift) transmission while driving on the left, you must book an automatic transmission well in advance, as they are less common and more expensive. 2. Mandatory Insurance (CDW) Rental companies require a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). This is often the most expensive part of the rental. The Saving Tip: Certain premium US credit cards offer CDW coverage in the Republic of Ireland. You must call your credit card company to confirm coverage and obtain a formal Letter of Coverage (LOC) dated near your travel date. ⚠️ WARNING: If you use your credit card's insurance, the rental company will place a large security hold on your card (often €2,500 – €5,000+). Ensure the card has sufficient available credit for this hold. Without the required LOC or if your card does not cover Ireland, you will be forced to purchase the rental company's insurance at the counter. 3. Time & Pace Roads outside of the main motorways (especially those around the National Park) are often narrow. Allow extra time for all travel, as scenic driving is slower than mapping applications suggest. Remember to book your car as early as possible to secure the best rates and availability.

Take a quick Airlink Bus or taxi from DUB to Dublin Heuston Station. From there, you can take a comfortable train directly to Killarney (approx. 3.5 hours). Book tickets in advance on Irish Rail for the best price.
