Nani Nicanor

June 8, 2024

How We Met

We met at UC Irvine in 2011, where we were placed in the same PUSO family and became friends. #thanksPUSO

First Move

Nani: During the beginning of my second year, I drunkenly confessed to Nikko that he had been my PUSO crush for a year! (set the bait!) Nikko: I tried to play it cool when she told me she had a crush on me, but I definitely tried to wedge myself into any opportunity I could to hang-out with Nani that it probably became obvious to everyone that I was interested as well. Nani: And after a few months of Nikko asking me to hangout and many study dates, I asked him to define the relationship and he asked me to be his girlfriend on January 5, 2013.

First Date

We thought long and hard, but in all honesty, it's been so long that neither of us remember! It's between a study date, getting wingies from Wingstop, or a trip to the driving range. BUT, our first date as an official couple was at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach!

The Proposal

11.12.22 Nikko: I spent the week before the proposal getting everything ready, right under her nose. I carved the pages out of a copy of "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" so that the ring would settle on the chapter titled "The Unbreakable Vow." I called and told our family members of what was to come. The morning of, the florist called while we were still in bed to tell me that the flower arrangement was ready. I told Nani that my barber was just calling to confirm my appointment (she bought it). She left for work that day and I got everything ready. Emma and I waited until she got home and when she opened the door, Emma, on cue, led her to the spot where Nani and I just kind of ugly cried while I got down on one knee, but I don't remember if I got to ask her the actual question of "Will you marry me?" Anyway, she still said yes and we got Korean BBQ after, just like I imagined in my fairytale proposal. Nani: I woke up that Saturday morning, without any clue what was to come. I remember having a busy work day and wanting to go home ASAP. On my way home from work, I opened the blink security camera on my phone to see what Emma was doing and to say I was on my way home. To my surprise, the camera was disconnected and a million things ran through my head on why there was no feedback. When I opened the door and saw Nikko's setup, I was in complete shock & everything went black (ask us for video proof). It wasn't until Emma walked over to me that I realized the day I've been waiting for has FINALLY come. We started to cry and I said YES! before I opened the book to see the ring and even before Nikko got down on his knees!
