Nancy and Kyle met the first day of graduate school at the University of Chicago. They became friends after both volunteering to be unofficial tutors at their school's "Math Camp," but it didn't take long until Kyle thought that there might be something more between the two of them. Nancy had to think about Kyle's "interesting" idea, but she eventually agreed to go on a date with him in late 2017. Kyle and Nancy spent the next year and a half studying public policy, building friendships, and falling in love. After graduating with Masters degrees in Public Policy, different career opportunities led them to a long-distance relationship for over half a year. Then they decided that long distance was silly, and moved in together in Chicago in March of 2020. They figured out how to live together while hunkering down for the pandemic, and decided that they wouldn't mind partnering up for good. Kyle proposed to Nancy near their home on the shore of Lake Michigan in March 2021. In the fall of 2021, they moved to Washington, D.C., where they are now writing the next chapter of their lives.
