What to expect at our ceremony?

-Our Ceremony- Bik’s family is Sikh and Namita’s family is Hindu, so our wedding ceremony will be a blend of both traditions. We’ll begin with a Sikh ceremony called the Anand Karaj, which means “Blissful Union.” It takes place in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy scripture) and includes live devotional music and hymns. During the ceremony, we’ll walk around the scripture four times, symbolizing the stages of marriage and our commitment to building a life together. At the end, we’ll incorporate a few meaningful Hindu elements to honour Namita’s family and complete the joining of our two traditions. No prior knowledge required — just come, listen, and celebrate with us. Programs will be provided if you’d like to follow along. At the end of the ceremony, the priest will be providing 'Prashad' which is a sweet offering, it is made from whole wheat flour, sugar, butter and sugar. -Seating & Etiquette- Guests traditionally sit on the floor on cushions as a symbol of equality (seating will be based on the side you are attending- ie. bride's side and groom's side). We kindly ask that you sit cross-legged facing the ceremony. There will be chairs available for those who are unable to sit on the floor. Shoes will be removed before entering (shoe racks will be provided). -What to Wear (for ceremony only)- Dress modestly and comfortably, especially since most guests will be seated on the floor and outdoors. All guests are asked to have their heads covered. We will be providing rumals (head covers for the men), for women please bring a scarf. Women: Indian attire is warmly welcomed (we’re happy to share rental options in our FAQ section!). Otherwise, trousers with a blouse or a maxi dress you can sit comfortably in works perfectly. Sleeveless is fine; we just ask that you avoid strapless styles. Men: Indian attire is welcome, or a suit or dress shirt with long trousers. Is there parking for the events?

Answer

There is parking available for all 3 events! Ikon has a large parking lot beside the venue. Liberty Grand has a number of Green P parking lots surrounding the venue all within a short walking distance within the Exhibition Place grounds. Hotel X has underground parking available.

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

While we adore your children, please note that the Wedding Ceremony and Reception will be adults-only events. We can't wait to celebrate with you!
