We chose Orvieto for its timeless beauty, its welcoming scale, and the ease with which it can be enjoyed on foot. Within its historic walls, every view feels like a painting—and there’s no need for a car to experience its magic.
Flight
For guests traveling from the U.S., Rome is the closest and most convenient gateway to Orvieto, with direct flights from many major cities.
Train
Trains depart from Rome’s Termini Station to Orvieto nearly every hour, with travel times ranging from about 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours 25 minutes. We recommend booking in advance through Italy’s national railway, Trenitalia, at https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html. Upon arrival in Orvieto, you’ll find the funicular just across the street from the train station—an enchanting ride that carries you up to the historic heart of the city.
Rental Car
For those wishing to explore at their own pace, renting a car from Rome Fiumicino Airport offers a scenic and straightforward drive to Orvieto—about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north, taking roughly an hour and a half. The route winds through the beautiful Umbrian countryside, making the journey itself part of the experience. Guests may reserve Palazzo Petrvs on-site parking in advance for €30 per night. To reach the hotel’s private lot, set your GPS destination to Piazza Marconi. From there, continue straight across the square onto Via Soliana, then drive ahead until you reach Piazza Duomo. The entrance to the parking area is at Piazza del Duomo 22, just to the left of the Orvieto Underground ticket office.
