Like so many pandemic love stories, Tyler and Myhien’s started online — on Hinge — in 2020, when the world was shut down, and swiping was about the only safe social activity left. Tyler (a California boy turned Texan) and Myhien (Texas born and raised) both landed in the DFW area after undergrad. Fate — and a great algorithm — brought them together. Now, meeting a stranger during peak COVID times is a little nerve-wracking. Naturally, they chose an extremely normal first date: the shooting range. Myhien figured that if things got weird, at least she’d have the comforting safety of an AR-15 by her side. What could possibly go wrong? …Well, a lot. On that first date, Myhien managed to shoot the target pulley wire, snapping it clean in two and sending the whole target system crashing to the front of the range. Tyler was both impressed and terrified. Myhien insists it was all part of her plan to make Tyler fall in love with her. She claims that adrenaline, a hormone released during stressful or exciting situations, can be mistaken for the feelings of love or attraction. Tyler wasn’t so sure about the science behind that — but he asked her on a second date anyway…aka. It worked ;) After a few more dates, Tyler officially asked Myhien to be his girlfriend at Griggs Park in Dallas, a park in which they would grab take-out and have picnics, toss around a baseball/football, or go on walks. A little while later, life threw in a twist: Myhien moved to Maine for school while Tyler was working in Dallas. They did long-distance for about a year, but Tyler was devastated and couldn’t bear the distance from Myhien, so he found a travel nursing job in New England. Now, if you know Myhien (and we’re assuming if you’re reading this, you do), you already know that she is a handful — the perfect depiction of Luke Combs’ “Beautiful Crazy.” As their love truly grew in Maine, Tyler had the perfect winter mountain proposal planned — family informed, date picked, location scouted. But of course, Myhien had other plans. She managed to injure her foot badly enough to require surgery… scheduled exactly THREE DAYS before the well-thought-out proposal. Unfortunately, there was no getting her up a ski lift with a cast and scooter, no matter how badly Myhien claimed she wanted to be engaged. In the end, it worked out exactly as it was meant to. On a trip back home to DFW, they returned to Griggs Park — the site of their first big relationship milestone — where Tyler proposed. New England will forever hold a piece of their hearts, but with school complete and new adventures ahead, they are heading back to DFW to set roots and start this next chapter together. (Now if you’ve gotten this far, we, Tyler and Myhien, would love to take a moment to thank you for the part you have played in our lives. We would not be here without the love and support from you and we are so excited and cannot wait to celebrate with you!)
