God's Glory in Marriage

Isaiah 54:5

"For your Maker is your husband— the Lord Almighty is His name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; He is called the God of all the earth." (Isaiah 54:5) Marriage was created by God to reflect His covenant with His people. When Christ came to earth and gave His life on the cross, He came for His bride—the Church. But who is the Church? It is all who believe that Jesus is the Son of God and have surrendered their lives to Him. Let us explain. Jesus often referred to Himself as the Bridegroom. Before His ascension, He told His disciples that He was going away to prepare a place for them. This statement carried deep significance in Jewish culture. In ancient Jewish wedding customs, a father would choose a bride for his son and pay a costly dowry for her. Once an agreement was made, the groom would leave to prepare a home for his bride while she remained behind, preparing herself for his return. She did not know when he would come back, but she remained faithful, waiting in eager expectation. In the same way, we—the Bride of Christ—wait patiently for His return. The Father has chosen us to be co-heirs with Christ, and we have been purchased at the highest price—His own blood. We do not know the hour of His return, but we remain watchful, devoted, and prepared. And on that glorious day, there will be great rejoicing as we are united forever with the Lover of our souls. Even now, we are one with Him in spirit. Marriage is a divine illustration of this sacred relationship. The two becoming one flesh is a reflection of God's people becoming one with Him. The pursuit of a husband mirrors Christ’s relentless pursuit of His Church. The submission of a wife reflects the Church’s submission to Christ. And the lifelong vows between husband and wife symbolize our unbreakable, eternal covenant with Him. We do not challenge this "traditional" view of marriage because, to us, it is not ultimately about us—it is about Him. It is about His love, His sacrifice, and His promise. No matter the trials that marriage may bring, we will rejoice all the more, knowing that Christ’s light shines upon us. May you see and cherish this truth as deeply as we do.
