How We Met

They say it happens when you least expect it, right?

It was a warm May evening and Mya was spending the day with a work colleague in Santa Monica. They decided to stop by the oceanside bar, The Bungalow at the Fairmont Hotel. Mya's friend somehow struck up a conversation with Chris's best friend, Justin Hartnell. Mya joined the conversation and after Justin heard her accent, he beckoned for his friend Chris to come over and join the conversation as the two had been to Australia before. Legend has it that as soon as Chris stepped in, Mya's face lit up. Chris & Mya were instantly connected and spent the evening getting to know each other and maybe even shared a kiss! Before leaving the Bungalow, Chris asked Mya for her number. It just so happened that at the time, Mya & Chris worked across from each other in Century City. Chris asked Mya to lunch that following Tuesday and unfortunately had to cancel due to being stuck at work, but he still wanted to see her that day and asked her to drinks at The Cellar after work. They spoke for hours, until the bar keeper finally kicked them out. Chris walked Mya to her car and the rest, well, is history!

The Proposal

12.24.18

From the moment Mya and Chris went for drinks on their first date, after meeting at The Bungalow in Santa Monica , he knew she was going to be a big part of his life. He'd never met anyone with such positive energy and passion for life and was so excited to see where this journey might take them. Mya consistently challenges and inspires Chris to grow and he thinks she is the most thoughtful, caring, and selfless person and wanted to ask her to be his wife. Chris called Mya’s mother, Jane, and brother, Tamar, and asked them for their blessing in marrying Mya and received their approval to do so. Mya’s mother was visiting from Australia for the holiday’s and Chris wanted to propose while she was in town and specifically, Christmas Eve. Christmas is a special time in Chris’ family as it gives everyone a chance to spend quality time together and spread the Christmas spirit. Chris was prepared and had practiced what he was going to say for weeks, not to say that he wasn’t nervous for this very special moment. His mom, sister, and Mya’s mother were all aware it was going to happen. It was Christmas Eve at Chris’ mothers house, everyone was ready for presents and Chris usually hands them out. He asked Mya to help and get a gift away from the tree so she had to turn away from him. She turned around and Chris was on his knee, with the box in one hand and her hand in the other. There was a brief interruption as Hunny B., the family dog, walked through and knocked Chris over. Chris asked Mya to marry him. Mya had no idea it was going to happen and was so stunned that she asked, “Did I say yes yet?” after 10 seconds of silence, the longest 10 seconds of Chris’ life, Chris said not yet and she said, “Of course I will!”
