Stroll along nearly 2 miles of scenic walkway alongside the historic Cape Fear River. Stretching from Nunn Street to the Isabella Holmes Bridge, lined with an assortment of restaurants, unique shops/boutiques, and art galleries. This is walking distance from all downtown hotels.
If you want to change your scenery from downtown, consider visiting Wrightsville Beach (about 20 minutes from downtown). This time of year is perfect as the "tourist" season is just ending, but the weather is still your idyllic beach weather. We always try to go to the South End for a less crowded on the beach experience (put in your GSP 917 S Lumina Ave, Wrightsville Beach). Please note, paid parking is enforced this time of year (9AM-8PM) with options of designated parking lots or on-street parking. There are coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping along the main strip N Lumina Avenue.
A must-see for history lovers. The Battleship North Carolina- a restored National Historic Landmark from World War II. The ship is moored across from downtown Wilmington and welcomes visitors daily with options to plan your own tours of the ship or book guided tours. Check their website (linked below) for more information.
Just a few minutes drive from historic downtown, The Cargo District is an urban community where the buildings are made out of repurposed shipping containers. We love to walk around the district and to visit their retail shops, restaurants, and bars.
Locals and travel guides agree Arlie Gardens is a must see and a short 20 minute drive from downtown Wilmington. Airlie’s historic property encompasses more than 67 acres of spectacular gardens, seasonal blooms, mighty live oaks (the Airle Oak Tree is 500 years old), walking trails and historic structures. The self-guided walking experience allows visitors to explore more than a dozen gardens; including the Pergola, Minnie Evans Bottle Chapel & a seasonal Butterfly House.
