Matron of Honor
Growing up I have been called many names. Some of them I care not to remember, others I humbly recall but one of my favorite names and the one I was most proud of was "Chongo's little sister." Chongo has been a great example and I could easily follow in her footsteps but I know my limitations. Though I am not as intelligent, generous, thoughtful, wise, and determined (others might call stubborn--I may have her beat on this one), I will forever be blessed to have her be the pattern of whom I wanted to grow up to exemplify. As I take on the role of stepmom to Kieran and Kayla, it is with excitement and hope that I emulate Chongo and her exemplary model of motherhood. It is an honor to call her not only sister but friend and to have her stand by my side as I say I do.
Matron of Honor
I must admit I wasn't so sure when our parents told us we were going to have another sister. My mom was too old at the age of 39 (the irony now that I'm two years away). Thanks to hindsight being 20/20, I can't imagine our family complete without her. There is nothing she can't do...literally what she sets her mind to she does it. Whether it is running a full marathon for her very first long distance race, to recently learning how to play the ukulele, going on adventures in a new city, modeling, going to school and working full time, she does it all and she does it well. Her compassion and nonjudgmental world view is refreshing. So glad she is in my world to learn from and grow together. She is a treasure and I am so blessed to have her stand by my side as I start this next adventure.
Bridesmaid
Kayla is a joy to be around. Her nurturing character draws her to cater to those younger than her that may need help and in the kitchen she is happy to be the sous chef. She is a hard worker in whatever she does, whether it is learning a new game, playing Settlers of Catan, dancing competitively, reading, or riding a bike while pulling another person. She constantly amazes me. I am so honored to be part of her life. I look forward to watching her grow up and forever making this memory of her standing by my side as we transition to become a family of four.
Best Man
Audley and I first met about 25 years ago volunteering at a community non-profit center. We hit it off as we found out that we were both Seventh-day Adventists. We later attended Oakwood College now Oakwood University to pursue careers in medicine. Our bond grew closer while at Oakwood as we became roommates, resident assistants and belonged to NAPS--an organization whose ministry is both local and international. After Oakwood, we continued being roommates at Loma Linda. We have been an integral part of each other’s lives throughout the years even despite the distance between us. He has been there through all the big and small moments in my life. Audley is more than just a friend, he is my brother. He is a friend for all times and in all times and for all time.
Groom
If only everyone could have a friend like Scott Wilde in their circle! His last name describes him perfectly. He is the kind of friend whom you can count on for a “wilde” adventure but most importantly he is a friend that I’ve counted on in my most poignant periods in my life. He is the kind of friend that goes the extra mile often times he has done it literally for me. I am glad to have him by my side as I experience another important milestone as I get married. He is a selfless and loyal friend with a servant’s heart. I am honored to not only call him friend but consider him family.
