Nolan & I met in 2009. I was with a friend when 3 boys my childhood friend knew, one being Nolan, picked us up to go on valley ride. When we slid into the backseat, I locked eyes with Nolan & introduced myself to Nolan & his other friends. Valleys rides (IYKYK) was a fun thing the high schoolers did back then by driving through the hills & seeing all the beautiful views of the Delaware valley. “Roller coaster road” was our favorite because it was just a huge hill with windy & bumpy roads, just like a coaster. It was always a blast. After that, months later, I bumped into Nolan at a Salesianum football game, where he went to high school, same as my Pop-pop on my mom’s side of the family. Nolan ran up behind me & blew an air horn in my ear, in attempt to flirt (lol) & scared me, but I thought he was just the cutest thing so we got to talking. Following this, we started talking every single night. He used to sneak out of his parents house every single night to come over to my parents house (sorry mom & dad)! We’d stay up all hours of the night & barely got any sleep during this phase but we fell in love super quickly. We had some of the best times of my life when we met. We would “watch” movies, make fun of the Jersey Shore reality show, which just came out at the time he started coming over. We’d play fishville together on Facebook, just having the most fun doing practically nothing. We spent all of our time together laughing & smiling, it was so simple but it felt like a fairy tale. He soon was graduating high school to be going to go off to college & I was sad, but I visited him almost every weekend at Villanova University where he was awarded a Bachelors of Science degree. The numerous times I visited Villanova were also some of the best times we’ve ever had in our lives! From the crazy parties, long nights & meeting all of his college friends who took me in as one of their own. One of the sweetest things that I vividly remember is the first time Nolan sent me a text after talking for hours on the phone & his exact text was “i heart you” & my stomach was just full of butterflies. I knew it was his form of saying “I’m falling in love with you”. I’ve never felt that feeling in my life before that so I knew in my heart from that moment, he was the one for me. The first time we said we loved each other in person, we were sitting on the Ivy apartments steps in Newark, DE. We were alone out front very early into the morning. I later took him to my senior prom & the photos we took for our engagement shoot is the same place we took my prom photos. Marian Coffin Gardens at Gibraltar is very close to our hearts due to this. We dated for a few years & then took a break for a year & some, still talking almost every day & continued to hangout whenever we could. Even though at the time I was shattered by this break in our relationship, if it didn’t happen - who knows where we’d be in our live’s today. It made our relationship so much stronger & made us realize that we were destined to be together. Since we got back together, years ago now, we have been through the absolute best of times together & worst of times. We are there for each other, always. We are the best support system for each other. In the last year, we got engaged, bought our first home & now we’re planning our wedding! There are so many things I could write here about our story but I wouldn’t change it one bit. One thing I must add which makes my heart burst— when my Gram’s health declined but she was still fully herself, Nolan drove over to her house one night when her & my mom were there. He asked their permission to marry me & she was so filled with joy & cried. Just to know that she was BFF’s with Nol & approved of him makes me so incredibly happy. I am so grateful to Nolan for doing this for me. & yes, he also asked my Dad for permission before proposing! I feel so lucky to have found my forever love at such a young ago & to be marrying my high school sweet heart.
