John and I met in September of 2015. I drove across the country from New York to California to help my best friend Theresa move. John is from California and when we met on my trip, something about him caught my attention and I knew there was something special about him. After my trip to California ended, I sadly began to think, we could never amount to anything considering we lived on opposite sides of the country. A few months went by, and it turned out that John was coming back to New York to visit. We grew closer over the months leading up to his visit, and one of the first things I learned about John was how much he loves desserts and sandwiches, and lets be honest, if you know me, those are my two favorite food groups. During the week leading up to his visit, I was so excited I started to call to myself "the future Mrs. Q", I know crazy. When he finally arrived we spent every waking second together, talking, laughing, and enjoying being together. During one of his last nights in town, he told me how he felt and said that if I was willing, he was willing to make it work, even being 3,000 miles apart. Honestly, I was little scared, but we both took that leap of faith. A few days later, he left, and all of a sudden we were in a long distance relationship. After 9 months of face timing, a 3 hour time difference, long flights, and lots of triumphs and challenges, I moved across the country from New York to Cali to be with the love of my life in August of 2016. It was the biggest decision I had yet to make in my life. We’ve spent these last few years growing, learning, and living the happiest life together.
In May of 2017, John and I traveled to New York and went to a Yankees Game in New York City. John and I were watching the jumbo screen, when a sign popped up that said “Karissa, will you marry me? Love, John.” He got down on one knee and everyone around us was cheering. I was so excited that I actually grabbed the ring out of the box and put it on my own finger and the rest is history. Now here we are, planning our wedding together; and it’s probably a good thing, because I haven’t stopped referring to myself as Mrs. Q. ☺
