If possible we recommend arriving on Thursday, March 5 to kick off the weekend with welcome drinks that evening. This gives you a full day on Friday to explore and enjoy the town before the wedding. If you can't make it for the welcome event, we'll look forward to seeing you at the wedding on Friday!
San Miguel De Allende is considered one of the safest cities in Mexico. The city thrives off of tourism, and over 10% of their population are retirees from America and Canada. We have always felt welcome and safe, even walking around at night. We even feel safer there, than in many cities in the USA.
The whole city is fairly small and is extremely walkable. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other. At any point, you can orient yourself to the central square by looking for the tall Cathedral or "Parroquia". Be sure to bring some comfortable shoes or wedges for walking on cobblestone streets. Taxis and Ubers are plentiful. You can go anywhere around the city center for under $5 USD. If you use a taxi, negotiate the price upfront. Expect to pay around 60-75 pesos during the day, and upwards of a 100 pesos at night. Approximately 100 pesos = $5-6 USD, depending on the current exchange rate.
We love all your children but we are throwing parties only adults will enjoy this weekend.
Depending on where you are traveling from, there may be cheaper and more direct flight into Mexico City International (CDMX). From Mexico City, there are a few options to travel to San Miguel de Allende. $$ - Hire a private driver $ - Take a bus by purchasing a ticket from Mexico City's Norte Bus Station to San Miguel's Centro Bus Station. It's a 3 hour 50 minute bus ride and costs $38 for a luxury bus ticket. We recommend the bus company Premier Plus. They post their time schedules and tickets can be purchased online beforehand. The gate will not be listed on your ticket but on the schedule at the terminal when you arrive. There is unreliable wifi so download entertainment in advance, there is a bathroom on board and we found the journey extremely comfortable. Book your bus ticket here: https://www.primeraplus.com.mx/en-US/destinos/san-miguel-de-allende
Yes! Dinner is not until 7pm and because we are starting with tapas we are not having the traditional American style appetizers during cocktail hour.
San Miguel is a small, walkable town with cobblestone streets and rolling hills a la Lisbon. Packing comfortable shoes is important! The temperatures also warm to quite warm during the day and cool down at night so do not forget a jacket to layer. Otherwise, we are asking for whites and neutrals for the welcome cocktails and color for the wedding.

The average temperature in San Miguel de Allende in March hits a high of 80°F and a low of 47°F. The evenings tend to cool down due to the 6,000 ft elevation. Due to the range, you should be sure to pack a jacket and sunscreen!
While most shops and restaurants accept major credit cards, we encourage you to have a few pesos on hand for street vendors and bargaining while shopping. The best way to get pesos is at an ATM. DO NOT EVER trade cash for cash or withdraw cash from your local bank. The rates are astronomical. The ATM with the lowest fee in San Miguel is conveniently located at Jardin Parroque Canal 4, Zona Centro, 37700 San Miguel de Allende, Gto., Mexico for a fee of 30.74 pesos (roughly $1.64). There may also be a 3% charge depending on your bank.
Yes, you can text and use the internet on your phone for free in Mexico if you have AT&T, Verizon or T-mobile. Wifi is at almost every cafe and hotel.
