Things To Do

There is plenty of hiking, kayaking and other outdoor opportunities around Traverse City. Here are some of our favorite spots to hang out.
Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive

Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive

Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, Empire, MI

This is a great scenic drive that takes you to many amazing views of the protected shoreline. My favorite is the one with a platform 450 feet above lake level, it gives you a jaw-dropping panoramic view of the Lake Michigan shoreline. This is great for kids to play in the sand and run up and down the hill. Be careful! Don’t run all the way down, it takes a LONG time to come back up!

Lake Ann Brewing Company

Lake Ann Brewing Company

6535 First Street, Lake Ann, MI 49650
, (231) 640-2327

Lake ann brewing company is owned by my uncle, Matt Therrien. Enjoy a hand crafted brew while listening to a local band play on the stage outside. Don’t worry if you don’t like beer! They also have a variety of ciders, meads, and wines for you to enjoy and for the kids, they have soda from a local place called Northwoods Soda!

Cherry Republic | Glen Arbor

Cherry Republic | Glen Arbor

South Lake Street, Glen Arbor, MI 49636
, (231) 226-3014

Welcome to the Cherry Capital of the WORLD! Cherry Republic has some crazy good treats and food. They specialize in all things cherry (duh!) but some of my favorites are their chocolate-covered cherries, their cherry wine called “Conservancy” and “Balaton” and their sour cherry gummies! SO GOOD! Come in for a free snack and wine tasting!

Platte River

Platte River

5042 N Scenic Hwy, Honor, MI 49640
, (231) 325-5622

Platte River is a great place to have some drinks and float down the crystal clear river. With its sandy bottoms, it’s easy to have fun with some friends. Grab some drinks and rent a canoe, kayak, or tube and link up to have some fun! This is a beautiful river that opens up to Lake Michigan. You can rent your stuff at Riverside Canoes and they will be able to shuttle you back to your car.

Traverse City

Traverse City

There is plenty of shopping, eating and drinking to be had in downtown Traverse City.

Leland Wineries

Leland Wineries

Leland, MI 49654

There are a string of beautiful wineries located along the shore of Leelanau Peninsula.

Empire Bluff Trail

Empire Bluff Trail

Empire Bluff Trail, Honor, MI 49640

This trail is for the adventurous at heart. This is a topographically endowed hike spanning 1.5 miles leading to the high bluff overlook offering panoramic views of the stunning Lake Michigan. This trail is not paved and is very sandy.

Pyramid Point Trail

Pyramid Point Trail

Pyramid Point Trail, Maple City, MI 49664

This is a breathtaking hike combined with some incredible dune climbing. This trail is 2.8 miles and features Lake Michigan and is rated as a moderate hike.

Fishtown Village Cheese Shanty

Fishtown Village Cheese Shanty

199 West River Street, Leland, MI 49654
, (231) 256-9141

This is a seasonal and beloved sandwich and cheese shop located in Fishtown. There are incredible views of Leland and small little shops and things to explore around the area.

South Manitou Island

South Manitou Island

207 W River St, Leland, MI 49654

For $42 dollars round trip via ferry, you can explore one of the most beautiful lighthouses and islands in Lake Michigan. The ferry departs from Leland at 10:00 AM and arrives to the island at 11:30 AM. Be sure to pack lunches, snacks, water and plenty of bug spray. This rugged island contains museums and historic buildings and includes a myriad of hiking trails. Our favorite part about the island is the history of the people who lived on it. The ferry departs at 4:00 PM and arrives back in Leland at 5:30 PM. This is a perfect activity for Friday.
