Being the two biggest nerds around, Sara and Stefan met at a comic/cosplay/anime convention called ConnectiCon back in 2015!. They met one of the first nights of the convention so they got to hang out, talk, have lunches and dinners together with all their friends and get to know one another. At one point of the convention, since Stefan was in a leg cast at the time, Sara decided it would be cute to have a hide-and-seek game in the middle of the big Vendor Room! She would hide with one of her friends and text Stefan to give hints to where they were and he would roll around on a wheelchair to try and find each other! Needless to say, he did and Stefan and Sara never let each other go since.
This was a big milestone for the two of them. Stefan having lived on his own for a few years already was a professional but Sara having still been living at home with her parents, who never moved out and commuted to college, was pretty stressful and difficult for her. They both worked together a few months prior to the move in day and were blessed to have many loving friends and family to help get them situated. Working together to achieve goals in life is always an amazing milestone.
What it all comes down too! Sara and Stefan host monthly board game night with our two friends (Alex and Eva) and play the game Pandemic: Legacy. The board game is very complicated to explain in writing, but essentially you have to work together to find the cure of a disease across the world. The "Legacy" part means that the board is forever changing every time it is played. They would have to open boxes and peel labels and add stickers to permanently change the aspect of the game! With this in mind, since around November 2018, Stefan, Alex, and Eva, all have been joking around with the idea of having the ring put in one of the boxes by shaking the box and saying things like "oh! I don't hear a ring!" and building the hype up. So when The Proposal day comes, Sara has no idea what to expect. Stefan sent beautiful flowers to her job to try and throw her off in case she suspected anything. When the four of them finally sit down and start playing the game, after the third person went, we were opening "Box 5". This was when Stefan took the box and slid off the couch onto one knee (unbeknown to Sara) and held it while she opened the box. Inside the box were two Origami lilies that Stefan handmade. Stefan took the ring out of one of the lilies and popped the question! Sara was so happy she almost forgot to say yes! It was a truly magical moment filled with love and joy!!
Who would've thought while playing a board game of Pandemic, we would be stuck in one! Pushing back the wedding to March 27th, 2021 gave us more time to enjoy our engagement despite the chaos going on in the world.
We decided to not let the pandemic get the best of our marriage and got hitched legally and officially on New Years Day! We were able to journey to Ammirondack in Long Lake, NY and spend the long weekend there (thanks Grandpa, Uncle Andrew and Aunt Sue!) with our two good friends, Alex and Eva Castleton (a groomsmen and the officiant) who helped marry us at exactly midnight on the 1st!
Due to the chaos of the world, we had to push back our wedding a second time to 9/12/2021. By now, it's looking a lot more promising as vaccines are rolling out and we are flattening the curve of COVID. We cannot wait to FINALLY celebrate with all of you!!!!
