It was April of 2016 during Chandler and Emily's freshman year of college at Missouri State University. Emily had decided to go with friends to a fraternity party that she had never visited before (hey we never said this was a romantic story). That night at the party, Emily noticed that Chandler kept glancing at her from across the room. Emily made her move, and they were immediately inseparable after that. BUT Emily was going home to Pennsylvania all summer starting a month after they met. They did not let that stop their love story though, as they knew they had something special. They took the chance that summer, and continued to pursue each other despite the distance. Chan got on a plane to visit that summer, and the two began officially dating in July of 2016, and the rest is history!
Chandler and Emily moved in together in May of 2020 into a small townhouse that would soon become their home. During this time, Emily had no idea that Chandler had already bought a ring and was planning the perfect proposal in August. During this time, Emily was very distracted with her finals week for graduate school, but little did she know, at the end of the week, she would be getting engaged! Secretly, Chandler knew Emily had never watched a sunrise before and was planning a sunrise proposal for August 8th. He even organized Emily's immediate family to be there all the way from Pennsylvania to surprise her. At this time, Emily just thought her family was ignoring her or giving her space to deal with school, but in reality they were too scared to speak to her and spoil the surprise! On August 7th, 2020 Chandler brought Emily to their family farm to enjoy some time off the grid after finishing the week of finals. They sat around a campfire discussing plans for the next day to watch the sunrise and they starting to talk about their future together. This was actually Chan's last minute chance to gain insight on Em's dream proposal! The morning of August 8th came, they woke up bright and early at 5:00 AM. Chandler made coffee and acted like it was any other morning, and he hid the ring in his camera bag while they made their way to a special place at the farm. They sat and talked and enjoyed a slow ordinary morning. Chandler set up his camera to pose Emily for a picture with the sunrise. Chan was lost for words, so he immediately dropped down on one knee, and asked "Emily, will you marry me?" Emily said yes (of course) and they made their way back to the farm's cabin, soaking up their new engagement. When they arrived, Emily and Chandler's families were waiting there to surprise them. It was truly the perfect day and perfect proposal (Great job, Chan!)
