Lake Tahoe
Drive 13 minutes along highway 89 to Lake Tahoe. Plenty of parking in Tahoe City and gorgeous views.
Donner Lake Area
Donner Lake is another great Mountain lake in the area. Donner Lake is much smaller and less traveled than Lake Tahoe but is just as beautiful. This is about 15 minutes from the Olympic Village. Check out the Donner Memorial State Museum for a history of the area and of the ill-fated Donner Party.
Downtown Truckee
Lovely downtown area with a lot of restaurants, shopping, and amazing views! About 15 minutes from Olympic Village.
Hiking
There is plenty of hiking in the area, here are some of the highlights below: - Truckee River Trail along Highway 89 follow along the Truckee River - Shirley Lake Trail: if you're looking for a challenging hike, this trail starts behind the tram Palisades Village - Truckee River Legacy Trail: newly opened trail that follows the Truckee River beginning at Trucker River Regional Park - Donner Lake Trail: walk along the shores of Donner Lake
Palisades Tahoe
Right in Olympic Village, this is the home of Legendary ski resort Palisades (Squaw Valley). You can ride the Aerial tram - about 8–10 minutes long and offers views of Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Nevada, and the Tram Face. There is also an array of shopping and restaurants in this Mountain Base Area.
