In early 2022 Emmet travelled to Spokane, WA to attend a firearms training course. Originally he was going to attend in 2020, but due to restrictions at the time, it was postponed (which ended up being the only way Emmet and Moriah could have met). While in Spokane Emmet met up with a friend from high school at a local brewery, Iron Goat Brewing. Emmet ordered a beer and a burrito and sat down, waiting for his friend. He asked a passing bartender if he could get a fork (yes, a fork for a burrito) and when the young woman came back she immediately knew Emmet thought she was cute. That young woman was Moriah. When Emmet's friend finally showed up they decided to sit up at the the bar where Moriah was pouring beers, cleaning glasses, and taking orders. It was there that Emmet and Moriah started to chat. Emmet turned to his buddy and said "Sorry dude, I'm going to hit on this girl." Moriah and Emmet started to make cheesy dad jokes, talking about the outdoors, and their favorite books. On his way out, Emmet took a chance and asked Moriah for her number... using the perfect dad joke. She loved it and laughed. They went out on a date the next evening and the rest is history.
