Garrett and Morgen might have met in 2012, but their lives truly came together in 2013 when they suddenly found themselves roommates in a very full and fun house of seven people. They went from strangers to classmates to best friends in a few short months. Over the next three years, they remained roommates, adventure partners, late night design collaborators, and good friends. A few short days before their graduation, Morgen came to her senses and realized her feelings ran way deeper than friendship. Luckily for her, Garrett had been patient enough to wait for her to get there.
I can’t seem to remember a time when I didn’t want to spend every minute of my life with Morgen. It seemed since we met as roommates, we always found a reason to blow off something else to spend time with each other. Whether that was sacrificing a night of sleep to stay up all night talking at the kitchen table or repeatedly missing a morning Lab class to grab coffee and watch the rain together. When we finally started dated in June of 2016, it seemed only a matter of time before I could ask her to spend the rest of her life with me. 2019 I had the ring, I had a plan, and I had an entire week of “birthday activities” scheduled and ready leading up to the proposal. Two weeks before I popped the question, Morgen decides to go and tear her meniscus, ending her ski season, her ability to walk without crutches for the next few months and requiring surgery (which she pleaded with me to schedule the day before my planned proposal). After finally convincing her to push the surgery a week later on December 23rd, I quickly took to altering all of my plans to be “one knee compatible”. December 21, 2019 A few weeks later and after a four days of music, dinners, hot springs, massages, and dog sledding, Morgen followed some clues that lead her to a trail in the mountains we visited frequently. What was supposed to be a nice day of backcountry skiing, turned into my best attempt to pull Morgen a half mile through snow in a plastic sled to a nice location overlooking the town of Silverton. Not wanting to waste any time, but completely out of breath, I managed to get out the words to ask her to marry me. And she quickly said yes. There was a ring, there was champagne, and there was a surprise celebration party waiting at our friends’ Silverton home to congratulate the occasion. Morgen’s surgery the next week was a huge success and we spent a very relaxing Christmas icing her knee and planning out our future wedding as a newly engaged couple.
