The Biltmore Mansion is a Châteauesque-style mansion built for George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895. It is the largest privately owned house in the United States, at 178,926 sq ft (16,622.8 m2) of floor space (135,280 sq ft (12,568 m2) of living area). It is still owned by George Vanderbilt's descendants, and it remains one of the most prominent examples of Gilded Age mansions.
We went here earlier this year during the Christmas holiday. The park features hiking trails for all skill levels, views of the Devil's Head balancing rock, and a 404-foot (123 m) waterfall, Hickory Nut Falls. It's most notable feature is a 315-foot (96 m) granite monolith named Chimney Rock, which is accessible by elevator and provides panoramic views of the park and surrounding valley.
This is one of our favorite places to eat in downtown Waynesville, it has incredible food and if you're into beer, its among the best in the area. If its on the menu, we highly recommend the tuna nachos, they are phenomenal.
