Which Airport Should I Fly Into?

DC is served by three airports: Reagan National, aka DCA: this is the closest airport to the venue (30-40 mins by car). It is on the metro system (blue/yellow lines) and close to the city (18 mins by train to Metro Center). It's a small-ish, easy to navigate airport which makes travel a breeze but sometimes limits the amount of flights, and prices can be higher. Dulles International, aka IAD - is further out (75 mins by car to the venue). It is also on the metro system (silver line, 1 hour by train to Metro Center). It's a large airport hub so flights are sometimes cheaper, but it's size can mean it's a pain to navigate. Baltimore Washington airport, aka BWI - is also on the far side (55 mins by car to the venue) and is not metro accessible, but it's a good airport and sometimes there are deals. You can take amtrak or the commuter line down into Union Station, although if you choose to do that, we recommend getting familiar with your travel itinerary. It's not as easy as the other two, but it is a hub for Southwest.

Should I rent a car?

Up to you! Our reception venue has a dedicated lot and cars can be left overnight. Teresa's house (our future house!) also has ample street parking if you are planning to come to the Farewell Brunch. If you are staying in the city, hotels will charge you to park overnight. If you are staying further out city, parking is pretty easy.

Train

Should I use Metro?

The DC Metro is easy to navigate and very safe! Our venue is not metro-accessible, but many hotels are if you are planning to sightsee over the weekend. The Metro is open until Midnight. Ask Morgan about his love for Metro anytime :-)

Travel Note

Should I use ride share (Uber/Lyft)?

If you want to do any sightseeing in the city, consider using a mix of Metro and Ride Share. DC is full of Uber and Lyft drivers. The average rideshare price is about $15 - $20 one way for a regular trip, but more if you are using it for airport travel or want a bigger vehicle. There is very limited parking near key sightseeing areas (Monuments, Smithsonian Museums, etc.) Our room block hotels will be close to metro stops.

AirBnB (https://www.airbnb.com/) and its competitor, VRBO (https://www.vrbo.com/), are widely available in DC and may be more affordable if you're coming in a larger group. Neighborhoods that would be particularly good to look into are: Brookland in Northeast DC (close to the reception venue); Capitol Hill (near where Teresa lives); Shaw (near Morgan's condo).
