Long before Stephen and Morgan met, his mother knew they were a match. Each morning Joanne would burst into the office that she and Morgan shared and sing out, “Good morning future daughter-in-law!” For months, she insisted that Morgan simply had to meet her very handsome and very tall son. Her reasoning? A similarly tall Morgan could wear her beloved four-inch heels and still he would dwarf her. Unable to counter such a powerful argument, Morgan hesitantly agreed. Joanne decided to arrange a casual get-together with plenty of friends to defuse the awkward set-up, or so Morgan was told. As the first to arrive, Morgan patiently waited to see some familiar faces, but the party never showed. Instead, only Joanne and Stephen walked into the restaurant and pulled up two seats at the table. Throughout the meal, Joanne excused herself to make “phone calls,” “speak to the bartender,” and “check on the food.” The whole meal was deeply uncomfortable for a bamboozled Morgan, but the ever cool, laid-back Stephen was unfazed. He had been told that he was headed to a lunch to meet one of his mom’s coworkers that he might hit it off with, so nothing seemed out-of-place at all. Later that day, Stephen found Morgan’s phone number in Joanne’s contacts and asked if she wanted to go on a date without his mother that same night, a date which they now refer to as their “second first date.” Three years later, at the base of a waterfall outside a small Argentinian hiking village Stephen asked Morgan to marry him. His reasoning? They were one another’s best friend and deepest love. Once again unable to counter such a powerful argument, Morgan enthusiastically agreed!
