Travel Note
Fly into Athens International Airport (ATH). From Arrivals, you can take an Uber, taxi, or arrange a private driver to your destination—either into central Athens or directly to the Piraeus Port. If you plan to spend time in Athens, we recommend staying in Monastiraki or Plaka. Both neighborhoods are within walking distance of the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum, and are surrounded by great restaurants and lively nightlife. To get to Aegina, download the Ferry Hopper App. It’s easy to use and lets you view ferry schedules and store your ticket right on your phone. Several ferry options are available, with the longest ride taking about one hour. Once you arrive in Aegina, we recommend renting a car, ATV, or moped, or taking a taxi to get around the island. (Be sure to select an automatic vehicle if needed!)
Travel Note
We recommend a few lovely hotels around the island, including Lalibay Resort, Apollo Hotel, and Angelina Boutique Escape. For larger groups, seaside villas are available on Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking.com. We suggest booking accommodations early, as places tend to fill up quickly especially during the summer months.
Travel Note
Aegina is such a beautiful island with a great mix of history, beaches, and laid-back Greek charm. Here are a few of our favorite things to do while you’re there: Visit the Temple of Aphaia. This ancient temple sits high on a hill and has incredible views of the island and sea. It’s definitely worth a visit! Explore Aegina Town. Wander through the harbor area, grab a coffee (my favorite is the Greek frappé) or gelato (you must try pistachio gelato!), and browse the little shops and pistachio stands (Aegina is famous for them!). Take a boat trip to Moni Island. Just a short water taxi ride from Aegina, Moni is a small, uninhabited island known for its crystal-clear water, peacocks, and reindeer roaming freely. It’s a perfect day trip for swimming, snorkeling, hiking and relaxing. Relax at the beach. There are plenty of great beaches around the island, whether you’re looking for somewhere lively with beach bars or something more quiet and secluded. Try the local food. The seafood here is amazing... grilled octopus, fresh fish, and lots of Greek salads by the water. Take a drive or rent an ATV. The island is easy to explore, and driving around is one of the best ways to find cute villages, ocean views, and small local tavernas. Visit Paleochora. If you’re up for a bit of exploring, this old mountain village is full of charm and history, it’s a fun contrast to the coastal spots.
Travel Note
If you’re planning to explore more of Greece after the wedding, we highly recommend visiting a few of our favorite islands: Milos, Paros, Santorini, and Naxos. Each has its own charm, from stunning beaches and picturesque villages to incredible food and sunsets. You really can’t go wrong!
