Ready to go 100 feet underground? The World Museum of Mining is built on the actual site of the Orphan Girl Mine. You can take a guided underground tour to see an exposed silver vein and hear stories of the miners who worked the 'Richest Hill on Earth.' It’s a multi-sensory experience—cool air, hard hats, and all! Be sure to book your tour in advance as they often sell out.
If you only have a few hours to explore, the Butte Trolley Tour is the way to go! This 2-hour guided tour is led by local historians who share incredible stories about Butte's copper kings and colorful past. It covers everything from the historic Victorian mansions to the massive mining headframes. It even includes a stop at the famous Berkeley Pit viewing stand. It’s a great 'orientation' for the city!
A must-visit for a true taste of Butte! Headframe Spirits is an award-winning micro-distillery named after the iconic mining towers you’ll see around town. Stop by their tasting room for a 'Dirty Girl' (Orphan Girl Bourbon Cream & Root Beer) and admire the historic 1920s bar.
If you’re looking for a local hang, head over to Smelter City Brewing. It’s got everything we love about Montana: great craft beer, a stunning historic interior, and a very friendly resident brewery cat named Taps. We highly recommend the Stumptown Scotch Ale or their refreshing Montana Mimosa fruit beer!
Calling all golfers! You won't want to miss a round at Old Works, Montana’s only Jack Nicklaus signature course open to the public. It’s a fascinating blend of world-class golf and industrial history, featuring unique black sand bunkers and remnants of Anaconda’s mining past. It's challenging, beautiful, and a true 'bucket list' course. Be sure to book your tee time in advance!
Philipsburg Brewing Company is a local treasure with two great spots to grab a pint. If you’re exploring downtown, stop by The Vault—it’s located in a beautiful 1888 bank building. If the sun is out, head just up the road to The Springs for their massive outdoor patio and live music. Local favorite? The Tramway Rye Pale Ale or the Haybag Hefeweizen. Don't forget to grab a few 'Alumi-Tek' bottles to go!
Whether you want a relaxing morning on a kayak or a lively afternoon on a pontoon, Georgetown Lake is the place to be! We highly recommend getting out on the water to soak in the views of the Pintler Mountains. For a quiet start, head out early for some paddling when the lake is like a mirror. If you’re looking for a group activity, rent a pontoon boat for a scenic cruise or some legendary trout fishing.
