Why would a couple who lives in Atlanta be getting married in an obscure little town in Western New York? It's a question we've been getting a lot. Chautauqua is a lake where I (Melissa) spent many summers growing up, as did generations of family before me. My grandparents got engaged in Chautauqua, family members have gotten married in Chautauqua, and when the time came for us to decide on a venue for our own wedding... it was hard to imagine getting married anywhere else. Strong nostalgia aside, Chautauqua is a beautiful and unique place. Chautauqua Institution was founded in 1874 as a resource for lifelong learning around the pillars of knowledge, religion, art, and music. For a 9-week summer season, guests can attend programs, lectures, concerts, and classes to their heart's content. We're getting married during the off-season, which means there won't be any of this programming, but it also means there will be plenty of room to explore the grounds of the Institution (sans crowds!) You can learn more at chq.org. We're really excited to share this place with you and celebrate by the lake!
