Like all great modern love stories, ours started on Bumble… and then immediately moved to LinkedIn. We both swiped right on Friday, May 6, 2022. Montana’s Bumble bio said she was “here until someone slides into my LinkedIn DMs,” and Zach, being the thorough guy that he is, decided to increase his odds. Since Bumble matches expire after 24 hours, he figured he shouldn’t leave this one up to chance. Also, Zach barely uses social media, so LinkedIn was the main place he existed online. It worked out nicely, because we both worked at Oracle, which meant Montana knew he had passed a background check. That same night, we met for drinks. Montana was already downtown at dinner with friends, so Zach waited nearby at Whisler’s and asked his friend Harrison to meet him for a pre-date drink/moral support. Unfortunately, downtown Austin parking is brutal. Harrison spent about 45 minutes trying to park, and when he finally found a spot, Montana texted that she was ready. While Harrison never made it to the drink, we still appreciate his emotional support from afar. Montana picked Zach up outside Whisler’s, and the first thing he said when she pulled up was, “Are you my Uber?” Thankfully, she laughed. She was playing Big Bootie Mix in the car, which felt like a good sign, and we headed to Zilker Brewing Company in East Austin. From the start, everything felt easy. We didn't speak much before meeting, but the conversation flowed like we had known each other forever. We bonded over our love of piña coladas, and at one point Zach went to get us another round only to find out there was only enough left in the machine for one more. He came back with one piña colada and one beer, and gave Montana the piña colada without thinking twice. It was a small moment, but Montana noticed. Neither of us was expecting how quickly it would feel different. Montana had moved from California, Zach from New Jersey, and somehow we met in the middle in Austin at exactly the right time. Zach officially asked Montana to be his girlfriend on June 18, 2022, but by then it already felt like we had found something really special. Since then, our life together has become a mix of little routines and big adventures. We love exploring Austin, walks, having dance parties for two in our apartment, pool days, dinner dates, making homemade pizza and pasta, watching movies on our extremely comfortable couch, hosting our annual Halloween party, and going all out decorating for Christmas. We are best friends, teammates, and two people who are somehow both very silly and very serious depending on the moment. On June 14, 2025, Zach proposed in Fredericksburg, Texas — a place that was already special to us from our first trip together. He planned a “surprise anniversary trip” in driving distance from Austin, which turned out to be a gorgeous Tuscan-style villa in Texas wine country. He secretly flew in Montana’s best friend from California, coordinated with her Austin best friend, and somehow kept the whole thing a secret. We arrived and walked around the villa to find an acoustic version of Taylor Swift’s “Enchanted” playing, and under a big oak tree were rose petals, roses, and photos from our relationship. Zach got down on one knee with the Hill Country behind him and asked Montana to marry him. She said yes! When it came time to choose a wedding venue, we knew Austin had to be part of the story. One night, we opened a bottle of wine and went through a spreadsheet of venues, ranking each one with comments like “pretty lights,” “ehh boring,” “need to see in person,” and “fairytale.” Camp Lucy was marked “LOVE TOP TIER” and highlighted in the greenest green we could find. When we toured it, Sacred Oaks immediately felt like the one. We got engaged under an oak tree in Texas wine country, and now we get to be married under the Sacred Oaks in Dripping Springs. We cannot wait to celebrate with you — with lots of dancing, an open bar, and the people we love most.
