Question

Avianca Baggage Allowance

Answer

For those of us on the Avianca flight from San Francisco, please see this link for baggage allowance information: https://www.avianca.com/us/en/travel-information/plan-your-trip/baggage/free-baggage-allowance We all get one free checked bag, up to 50 pounds, and the sum of the external dimensions (height+length+width) cannot exceed 62 inches. Also, we can take one carry-on bag and personal item. The carry-on size must measure at most 45 inches (height+length+width).

Question

Is there Wifi at the house?

Answer

Yes! Three routers so we have good coverage in all the wings and areas of the estate.

Question

What kind of power cord can I use?

Answer

Costa Rica has the same power outlets as the US.

Question

Will I get my own bedroom?

Answer

See the page for "Our Group" to view room number assignments for each individual.

Question

Do I need to dress up when we decorate the ceremony circle?

Answer

No. We don't care what you wear when the photographers aren't there. They arrive around 2pm on July 10th and are finished up by 9am on July 11th.

Question

Will I be cold/need a coat?

Answer

It is highly unlikely to be cold enough for warm clothing. Even in the rain a light raincoat can feel too hot. We will not be going to the high mountains/cloud forest where it can be chillier. We have never needed a coat on the coasts of Costa Rica, but if you do want something it should be light and waterproof.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

Clothing that can get wet, and dries quickly Comfortable shoes with grip (everywhere you go will have uneven terrain, so please skip the high heels) Water shoes (if you have them - this is not a necessity but could be helpful) Waterproof sunscreen (in our experience 80 minute water resistance is not good enough) Bug spray Sunglasses Reusable water bottle - let's not add plastic water bottles to the ocean! Binoculars if you have them Handheld misting fan or any handheld fan that travels easily. We will have some to share as well. Waterproof phone protector (or ziplock bag for your pocket) this is just in case of a rainstorm while out and about. Travel Umbrella (we will also have big clear ones for the wedding) Your Driver's License Your Passport Bathing suit (more than one is nice so you have one while the other is still drying) Mask and snorkel (the villa does not have these) Anorak (light waterproof jacket - not needed for warmth - just to keep dry) Flashlight

Question

What should I wear for the wedding?

Answer

For the wedding ceremony day (July 10th) and the following morning's breakfast (July 11th) we are requesting that all guests help us with color coordination. Wedding Day: Please dress entirely in a color palette from tan to ivory. Please no prints, and no dark or bright colors. An ideal outfit for a man would be an ivory short sleeve linen or cotton button down shirt and cream slacks, capris, or even shorts, with brown shoes. An ideal outfit for a lady would be an ivory summer dress with nude sandals. After Wedding Breakfast: Please wear solid colors. No prints please. No black, gray, white, brown. An example outfit for a man would be a violet or blue button down shirt with mauve or green pants. An example outfit for a lady would be a solid coral or solid teal summer dress. Have fun with your color choices! No suit jackets! It will be 90 F and humid. Please don't wear high-heel shoes. The ground is uneven jungle floor. Low wedges or block heels if you absolutely must.

Question

What do I need to know about the wedding ceremony?

Answer

Glad you asked! 1. We will need your help decorating our ceremony space the morning of the wedding. This will involve hanging strings of flowers from the trees in the jungle, and creating a flower mandala on the jungle floor. This will be a meaningful cooperative experience for us to share with you. 2. Our non-traditional ceremony will not be seated, so please wear comfortable shoes for standing. We will all stand, with our guests in a circle surrounding Bettina, Eric, and Jillian in the center. 3. Our ceremony and dinner will be an UNPLUGGED experience. Please leave your phones in your rooms. We are asking that all of our guests be completely present with us throughout our ceremony and dinner without the distraction of phones, or your individual cameras. We have four very talented professionals flying from Germany and Idaho to film and photograph this experience, and we are 100% confident that they will capture every significant moment of the day.

Question

What do I need to know about group pictures?

Answer

You ask all the right questions! Immediately following the ceremony our entire group with pile into our SUVs and head down to the Ballena Marine Park, where we will proceed to the famous Whale's Tail landmark. This is a gorgeous beach that extends out into the Pacific Ocean and waves approach from BOTH sides as you walk out and back. This will be an experience you will want to be barefoot for, as we expect everyone to wish to get their feet wet. If you are wearing pants, you may wish to roll them up a bit too. We are hoping to get beautiful, somewhat candid, and mostly not staged/unposed photos of our group walking in this beautiful place, and playing a bit. No stiff group photos here!

Question

What credentials will be required to enter Costa Rica?

Answer

All you will need is a current passport. No Visa is needed to enter Costa Rica. A small "exit tax" ($29 USD in 2016) will be required upon departure, but often this is included in your airline ticket. More information can be gathered from the airline or from the airport information desk. Please DO bring your driver's license, as we have 3 cars and will need volunteer drivers. Roads are mellow and easy in our town, so driving is not a stressful venture.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Costa Rica has two seasons: Green Season (wet) and Dry Season (Summer). Dry Season is very hot, with few showers and runs from December to May. Green Season begins in June and runs through November, with the heaviest rains in September and October. In the middle of July there is what is known to locals as "Midyear Summer", which is characterized by fewer showers and more sunny days. We've aimed to plan our trip during that time period. It is very likely to rain during our stay, but most often these are storms of about 1-2 hours that pass between 2-4pm. The overall weather will be quite warm, even in the rain. The humidity cannot be overstated. Breathable clothing, along with both clothes and shoes that can get wet and dry quickly are a very good idea.

Question

Are you registered for gifts?

Answer

No, we are not. All we ask from our cherished guests is their presence at our wedding celebration.
