College? Nope. The bars? Nope. A rodeo? Nope. A dating app? Yup! Monica and Zach met on Tinder on August 15, 2017. Guess swiping right really worked for them! They did long distance while Zach was in Hawaii for 4 months before actually meeting in person. And at that point, Monica asked Zach if he was a serial killer. He giggled and said, "No. Of course not." She still was not sure because clearly that's what a real serial killer would say. She was still skeptical, but Monica finally knew he was the one when her Grandma told her that Zach was a keeper. That was around the same time that Zach knew too, because he told Charlie (Monica's dog) that he loved her mom! That following June, Zach flew Monica out to Hawaii where he was stationed for the military. They spent a week in paradise and it was perfect. He followed the history nerd to every museum she could find. She left him in Hawaii when she came back to Kansas and continued the long distance. Zach made the decision to get stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas where they wouldn't have to do as long of distance. Still 180 miles between them because Monica was in Hays at college. That Christmas, their family grew by 4 paws when they got Scout together! They would spend their weekends with each other, family, and friends. The weekend dates helped Monica realize what military life was like. She made the decision to transfer to K-State and live in Junction City with Zach. Zach and Monica went through some tough times in October 2019. Through these tough times, Zach stood by Monica's side and never left. This made their love for each other even stronger. They got married November 19, 2019. After that the pandemic hit - so they spent time quarantined fishing, attempting to grow a garden, and preparing for Zach's deployment. Monica just graduated from K-State with a degree in social work and has an internship with DCF in Manhattan this summer. Zach is deployed in Iraq and will be home early September in time to celebrate!
