Both are a necessity here as there is a lot of strong sun but also a lot of mosquitoes, especially around sunset. So please bring some or get it here. We recommend that you use biodegradable products as these are better for the environment but also because you are not allowed (and we kindly ask you) to not enter cenotes or the ocean if your products are not biodegradable in order to save our wonderful nature, the best recommendation is to put it on 20 minutes before to get in the water (ocean/lagoon/cenote)... gracias!!!
For your stay down here in the Caribbean, we want to point out that it is very important to stay hydrated throughout your stay even though you might not feel too thirsty during the day. The climate is hot and very humid which makes you lose a lot of water during the day and if you don't drink enough water ( 2-3 liters if possible) it might make you feel sick. To enjoy your stay to the fullest and especially on the wedding day where there is a lot of excitement and emotions which makes it hard to remember sometimes, we recommend drinking enough water, at least one glass of water for each alcoholic drink.
In Tulum you can pay with Pesos or Dollars – A lot of places also accept credit cards but you will need cash for i.e. taxis. If you wish to withdraw money, we recommend using the ATMs in town as their fees are a lot less than the ATMs on the beach area. HSBC and CI Banco in downtown Tulum are the best. If you bring USD, we recommend changing them to pesos in the “casa de cambio” in downtown Tulum.
Cell phone reception is almost non-existent along the hotel strip in Tulum but almost all hotels and restaurants offer WiFi.
You will need a passport to travel to Tulum. Please make sure it is up to date! It can take a while to get a passport, we recommend starting early!
