How We Met

Yes, it was Tinder . . .

Unfortunately, Tinder doesn't really allow for meet-cutes that make good stories for a wedding website. Tim sent a slightly creepy GIF; Monica responded, "That's unsettling." It took about a month for them to actually meet in person, because Tim bailed on what was supposed to be their first date. Tim thought that he blew it after that, but Monica gave him a second shot. She was going to be in Kansas City the same weekend as Afentra's Prom where one of Monica's favorite bands, Kitten, was playing. They decided to meet up at the show. After Kitten was done playing, they got in line at the merch table to get Chloe, the lead singer's autograph. The very first picture they ever took together was posing with Chloe after the show. (There may or may not have been a lot of alcohol involved by that point!) When the show ended, they were having such a good time that they went out afterwards. Tim convinced Monica to go to Shark Bar even though Power & Light isn't her scene. It was so crowded and loud that they spent most of the time outside on the deck. Finally, Monica remembers Tim saying "I really want to kiss you right now," and Tim remembers Monica giving him 'this cute subtle nod of permission' and they have been together ever since.

The Proposal

09.07.2018

In a way, the proposal wasn't a surprise, because Monica and Tim had decided together that they were both ready to get engaged. They went and picked the engagement ring out together but Tim was adamant that the actual "Will you marry me?" moment be a surprise. A few months went by and they were planning a weekend trip to Olathe under the pretext of celebrating a friend's birthday. They got in late Friday night and slept in on Saturday morning. Tim got up earlier than Monica, turned on some Lord Huron, and went to the kitchen to make coffee. He brought Monica a cup of coffee in bed and in the same room where he asked, "Would it be okay if I called you my girlfriend?" he knelt beside the bed and asked, "Would it be okay if I called you my wife?" She said, "Of course!"
