In the bustling heart of Chicago in the winter of 2020, we found a spark on Hinge, the dating app known for its promise to be deleted. Kyle's first message to Rachael like the gentleman he is read, "Miss Rachael, when can I take you to dinner?" Rachael noticed Kyle's attention to detail immediately when he spelled her name correctly (with an "ael"). What began as casual conversation at Etta, soon blossomed into something neither of us expected—a genuine friendship. Our first date was more than just dinner; it was the start of an adventure right before the world felt like it was frozen in time (*cue March 2020). We explored every corner of the city, tried all of what Chicago offers in cuisines, and spent time simply enjoying each other’s company. The connection that we had was strong, and over time, grew into something much deeper. Before we knew it, we had built a life together. We moved into a one-bedroom apartment and, like many during that time, found ourselves working from home side by side for three years.
