We’re so excited for everyone to descend on Groton—prepare yourself for peak New England charm. First things first: we have elite local hype. Amy Poehler interviewed Steve Carell on her podcast Good Hang, and they gave Gibbet Hill a shoutout (!!). Skip to ~minute 17 for the Gibbet moment—we’ll forgive the mispronunciation.
Gibbet Hill Farm has been raising award-winning Black Angus cattle for 60+ years, and the Barn (built in 1906!) is where we’ll celebrate the big day. The farm-to-table food is largely grown right onsite. Bonus: the Inn and Forge & Vine overlook Gibbet Hill—aka the backdrop for that iconic Jo + Laurie hill scene in Little Women (2019). Yes, that hill. But booooo Timothée.
If you’re up for a quick adventure, hike up to Bancroft’s Castle. Park at Gibbet Hill Grill and follow the signs—it’s about a 15-minute walk (~½ mile). Explore the ruins and take in sweeping views of the Nashua River and Merrimack Valley. Little Women reenactments strongly encouraged.
In addition to Forge & Vine and the Gibbet Hill Grill, Groton has some other great local eateries to try. Grab some coffee and breakfast or lunch at Salt & Light Cafe. Sit down for lunch or get a sandwich at Filho’s Cucina. Get a sweet treat at Dolce Amar. Or, if you're looking to venture out of Groton, the Nashoba Valley Winery in Bolton can be a fun stop (~30 minutes away).
