We met at a bar in downtown Denver after a college football game- all thanks to Geoff’s friend Michael (groomsman) and his girlfriend at the time, Amanda (Molly’s classmate/pal). Amanda had suggested earlier that day that I (Molly) go to a concert with Geoff as a blind date and that we would be “perfect together.” Unwilling to go on a blind date, I suggested that we meet up after the CU vs CSU game that evening- less pressure. When he walked in the bar, I immediately regretted my decision- he was handsome! After hanging out for a bit at the bar, I was regretfully pulled away by friends to go somewhere else (dang birthday girls and their demands..) The next time I was with Amanda- out for lunch the following week- I brought up Geoff and how I thought he was cute. She passed this information along to Michael who then passed it along to Geoff. His response, “what, are we in middle school? Just give me her number.” And just like that, Geoff and I were chatting about meeting up for our first date before I left the restaurant.
Geoff and I were enjoying a trip abroad. We had taken a train from London to Paris in the morning, and were touring Paris by early afternoon. We decided to stop by the hotel to check in and to drop off our bags before getting some food and exploring on foot. Unbeknownst to us, restaurants in Paris don’t serve food between 2pm-8pm. After a glass of wine (when in Paris, right?!) we started our trek to find a grocery store for some bread, cheese and champagne. After what seemed like a very long walk, we found a small grocer and exactly what we needed. It was already getting dark so we headed to the park across the street from the Eiffel Tower to watch its flickering lights. It was magical: we got pictures, sat and watched in awe, and toasted a wonderful view straight from our champagne bottle. We sat and watched for awhile. Despite the cooling temperatures, we decided to venture to the top of the Eiffel Tower to see the lights of the city. The wait in line was chilly, but we made it through- and it was worth it! The views from the top were excellent- Paris at night is so beautiful. Already it was one of the best days of my life, then Geoff got down on one knee and sealed the deal- he proposed and I knew I’d get to spend forever going on adventures with my best friend. After the initial shock and excitement wore off, the cold and our hungry belly’s forced us to leave the Eiffel Tower to seek food and shelter. We found a quaint cafe near by and ordered a bottle of wine and some steak and frites. Another couple was seated next to us and we quickly learned they had just gotten engaged under the Eiffel Tower- what’re the odds?! They got free champagne from a nearby table and told everyone their story. Geoff and I were more discrete- who else would’ve believed two happy couples had gotten engaged at the same place at the same time, and then went to the same place to celebrate.
