The average temperature in September ranges between 45 and 56 deg F, with 15 days of rain. Because of the ever changing Kodiak weather we recommend packing the following: - Water proof boots - Hiking/trail shoes - Multiple layers - Rain jacket - Long and short sleeves
Book your hotel/Airbnb as soon you can. Housing accommodations in Kodiak are somewhat limited, and prices will likely rise as we get closer to the wedding date.
There are multiple "rainy day" activities in town including museums, wildlife refuges, fish tech and aquarium. Our best advice though is to bundle up, put your rain gear on and brave the weather! Be mindful to wear moisture wicking underlayers to stay warm.
If you run into a situation where you see a bear on a hike or on the river while fishing the most important thing is to stay calm. Slowly back away from the bear while talking very loudly. If you are in a group, group together to appear larger. If you have bear spray, use the spray as directed on your canister.
We recommend bringing bear spray on all hikes and walks. You can buy bear spray at Big Ray's Outfitters. Fly-by and Harborside Coffee have bear spray that can be borrowed for the day.
