Imagine wandering a 900-year-old medieval village and suddenly stumbling into world-class contemporary art. That's Peccioli for you, and we love it. The MACCA (Museo d'Arte Contemporanea a Cielo Aperto) is a totally free, open-air museum with 70+ large-scale installations scattered across town and the surrounding countryside. No ticket counter, no closing time, just art hiding around every corner. A glowing pedestrian bridge wrapped in a ribbon of color. Towering human figures rising from the earth at an old amphitheater. A light installation that changes color based on people's real-time moods. It's wild.
For the planners in the group, this is your go-to for maps, local tops and everything else. These folks have you covered.
This charming, casual spot is all about keeping it local. And we mean that literally. They source their ingredients directly from the small shops and producers right in Peccioli's old town, from the local gardener to the deli down the street. The grill is a standout, featuring meat from small, mostly family-run farms nearby. Simple, honest, delicious Tuscan food the way it's meant to be eaten...with a stunning panoramic view of the countryside as your backdrop. A great casual option for lunch or a relaxed dinner.
Right on the main piazza, La Dispensa is exactly the kind of place you hope to stumble into in a small Italian town. Cozy, unpretentious, and really, really good. Think refined Tuscan dishes, an incredible wine selection sourced from the surrounding region, and a vibe that makes you want to linger for hours. Grab a table on the veranda if you can.
You're in Italy, of course you just want really, really good pizza! And this spot has you covered. Tucked right into the historic center, Pizzeria del Borgo is a local favorite with a young, energetic scene and a menu that nails both classic and funky pies. Can't decide? Grab a slice at the counter. Don't sleep on the "paposce" either, a stuffed calzone situation that you will not regret. Go here for a casual night or a quick lunch between adventures.
If you like fresh truffles, this is your spot. D'Amarti is a specialty shop and eatery dedicated to all things truffle like loaded "schiacciate" (Tuscan flatbread and Mia's favorite bread of all time), incredible cured meats, and products that will ruin you for regular food forever. Set in a charming former butcher shop and run by four women who clearly take great pride in what they do, it's equal parts deli, tasting experience, and a love letter to Tuscan ingredients.
Start your mornings here. Ferretti is Peccioli's beloved family-run pastry shop and their desserts, award-winning gelato, and coffee will immediately become part of your daily routine while you're in town. The "Cecina" (a traditional Tuscan chickpea flatbread) is THE best in the area. Swing by for a full meal too, because the pizza and homemade pasta re equally not to be missed. Oh, and one more thing...they will be catering our wedding dinner! So yes, you'll be familiar with the chef's work by the end of your stay. You're welcome. 😉
