Chelsey and Adam began the 2017-2018 school year as newly appointed teachers within the Central Valley Central School District located in Ilion, NY. Chelsey had dreamt of landing a job in the Hudson Valley but was elated to have been employed full-time by a public school district as an AIS Math teacher. Adam was awaiting other employment offers when he agreed to work for Central Valley CSD. In October they were asked to attend a first year teacher workshop. Chelsey's principal believed that as a teacher with years of substitute experience and more than a year in a previous classroom of her own, that the workshop wasn't pertinent to her and indicated that her attendance wasn't necessary. The district's Director of Curriculum and Instruction disagreed and she was required to attend. On Tuesday, October 10th 2017 Chelsey and Adam entered the workshop, sitting in close proximity but at separate tables. The workshop began with an icebreaker: write the name of your favorite halloween costume on your name tag. They found themselves in front of one another and Chelsey was unfamiliar with Adam's costume, Jon Snow. He told her it was a character from one of his favorite television series: Game of Thrones. She had heard of it, but hadn't watched it nor been interested in it - perhaps they had nothing in common but he was cute so they continued to converse until they were called back to their seats. At one point, all of the teachers were working at stations set up around the room. They had coincidentally chosen the same station - without any other participants joining them. This forced small talk and light hearted laughs but when it was time to switch stations, they chose separate paths. At the conclusion of this workshop, Adam raced out the door to get to cross country practice and Chelsey wondered if they'd ever meet again. A few days later, he popped up as someone she may know on Facebook. Her friend request was sent and accepted. Alas, their friendship began.
Over Columbus Day weekend, Chelsey & Adam took a trip to New Hampshire. They arrived in Keene, NH late on Friday, October 9th and spent the night in a "tiny house". The next morning, Saturday, October 10th, they trekked up to Lincoln, NH for a day filled with way more activities than they could actually partake in because Chelsey tries to plan as many adventures in a day as time permits - assuming that the timeline goes as planned... which, with Adam in tow, it never does. One of the first activities planned that day was hiking Artist's Bluff, a 1.5 mile trail to a peak overlooking Echo Lake and Kancamagus Highway, to view the beautiful New England fall foliage. Once they arrived, they had a family take their picture at the bottom of the trail head and then they began to hike. They had never hiked this trail before so they stopped a few times along the way looking for the breathtaking view that Chelsey had seen in so many photos prior to the trip. With each new lookout, they wondered when they'd find the infamous viewpoint and their anticipation grew. Shortly after they reached the top, Adam took the camera from Chelsey and handed it to a seemingly unknown woman and walked away from her. As Chelsey was concerned about leaving the camera in the hands of a stranger, Adam took her by the hand and walked her closer to the edge of the peak. He gave a beautiful proposal and presented her with the most exquisite ring she could have imagined. They kissed and embraced and in that moment, time seemed to stand still. As they walked away from the edge, Chelsey looked at the stranger holding the camera and it was her best friend Alanna in disguise! She had hiked Artist's Bluff alone and sat for 2 hours at the top waiting to capture the moment on camera. Chelsey was elated and completely taken aback at the thoughtfulness and preparedness of the proposal. She couldn't wait to become Mrs. Chelsey Rosenbarker!
